An overview of the polar environment
|
The worlds most pristine and beautiful regions are thought to be those of the polar environment. It can be found between roughly 60° north and south and this means that all of the sun reaches it at an indirect angle. This location attributes to a unique climate, with great change between seasons, and extremely cold temperatures. These temperatures mean that these polar environments consist mainly of ice. The temperatures and harsh conditions mean that both the flora and fauna, as well as the permanent population of around 3.7 million have had to adapt. Some of the adaptations of the flora include shallow root systems and plant clumping. While the animals have thick coats and large fat supplies. The population consists of scientists and the natives, with the three main tribes the Inuits, Aleuts, and the Tlingit.
